Types of 40ft Containers

A 40ft general-purpose, or standard container, has the capacity of about twice as much as a 20ft container. Our customers typically rent this container for international shipping, self-storage and home modification.

Refrigerated

A refrigerated container, also known as a ‘reefer’, features a self-powered cooling system. Reefer containers for hire are ideal for storing food, drink, or other perishables that must be maintained at a specific temperature. 

High Cube

A high-cube container makes a great pop-up shop and on-site office. With extra verticle height, high-cube containers can easily hold tall cargo.

Insulated

Insulated shipping containers are wind and water-proof and are the best option for transporting cargo that must be kept at consistent ambient temperatures. These are different to refrigerated containers and are often referred to as ‘non-operating reefers’.

Flat Rack

Hire a flat-rack shipping container with reinforced floors to carry heavy loads such as vehicles or machinery. Flat-rack shipping containers have no roof and provide the option of two rigid or collapsible ends.

Dangerous Goods

Need to ship or store hazardous items? A dangerous goods shipping container will ensure flammable materials such as gas bottles, fertilisers, petroleum and paint thinners are held or transported safely.

Side Opening

A side opening shipping container is suitable for transporting heavy and bulky cargo and allows for more effortless loading and unloading. They are the most flexible container type available, with side door configurations providing easy access.

Open Top

Transport and store heavy machinery and equipment in an open-top shipping container. Roof bows secure the removable tarpaulin roof to protect your load from the elements. In addition, end doors provide further flexibility for loading and unloading the unit.

New or Used

Here at SEA Containers NZ, we rent and sell containers in a range of new and second-hand conditions. Each 40ft shipping container is guaranteed to be 100% wind and watertight for maximum durability. 

Our ‘A-grade’ new containers have been used for just one ocean journey from China, so they are in premium condition. These containers generally have vents in the sidewalls and feature marine plywood floors and lockboxes. 

Our ‘B-grade’ containers have been used for international shipping and may have minor damage, surface rust or repairs but are 100% seaworthy once we update them with a valid CSC plate. 

Our ‘C-grade’ used containers are considered an economy grade and are supplied ‘as-is’. There may be signs of previous repairs, dents and rust. They are ideal for a wide range of safe storage applications. 

Should I hire or buy a container

Renting is ideal for short-term applications such as portable buildings, temporary extra storage space for farming equipment, machinery, furniture, business documents, sporting equipment, tools, etc. However, purchasing a 40ft container is an excellent idea for long-term arrangements; check out our shipping containers for sale here. In addition, if you buy a unit and later decide you no longer need it, you can re-sell it and recoup your investment.
