Our range of containers
Our 40 foot containers are ideal for storing or sending large volumes of good overseas or throughout New Zealand.
The 20 foot container is one of the most popular sizes. Ideal for storing and transporting household furniture, tools, equipment or materials. Used and new containers available or hire is an option for a short term option.
A 10ft container is perfect the size because it’s a versatile, sturdy, and cost-effective solution for storing and transporting a small amount of goods.
Sea Containers NZ supply used shipping containers for sale or hire. Our containers come in a variety of sizes and configurations. We have containers suitable for domestic and export use, and containers suitable for both bulk and light weight materials.
Also known as ‘reefers’, our refrigerated shipping containers operate at temperatures between minus 25 °C and +25 °C. This is the ideal temperature range for storing and transporting perishables such as food and beverages.
Utilise high cube containers for storage, pop-up shops and offices. With an extra foot of height, these 20ft or 40ft container units can easily hold extra tall content.
Side opening containers are useful for transporting heavy and bulky goods and allow for easier loading and unloading. Side opening containers are the most flexible type of container we have available, with side door configurations allowing for easy access.
Double Ended Door Units
Multi-purpose double-ended door units are designed for on-site storage and transportation. Doors at each end allow for easy access to your goods, eliminating the need to unload the entire container. Perhaps install a partition wall in the middle of the container, and use it as two separate storage rooms 3m long.
If you are transporting or storing hazardous items, our dangerous goods storage containers will ensure a safe containment of your cargo. Safely store and transport flammable items such as gas bottles, fertilisers, petroleum and paint thinners.
Simplify transporting and storing heavy machinery and equipment with an open-top container. The removable tarpaulin roof is secured by roof bows to protect your cargo from the elements. Our open top models feature end doors to provide further flexibility for unloading items.
Our insulated shipping containers are wind and water-proof, and are ideal for transporting goods which need to be kept at consistent ambient temperatures. These are often referred to as ‘non-operating reefer’ containers.
Flat-rack containers have reinforced floors for carrying heavy loads such as machinery or vehicles. These containers have no roof and are available with two rigid or collapsible ends.

Buying a new vs used shipping container
- What are you using it for?
- How long do you need it for?
- What is your budget?
- When do you require the container?
- Whether you are looking for new or used shipping containers.
New containers are suitable for:
- Container homes or extending living spaces
- Pop-up restaurants
- Workshops
- Office spaces
- Portable buildings or stores
- General-purpose or household storage
Second-hand containers are good for:
- Garden sheds
- Shipping cargo around New Zealand and to the Pacific Islands
- Safe storage
- Garages
- Nurseries or indoor gardens
We assign a grade to each container using a three-tier system for both new and used New Zealand shipping containers. Our containers are available in a variety of conditions, from new to economy grade:
- An A-grade container has had one trip only and comes directly from the manufacturer, so it is as new as you can get. But the container can still arrive with wear and tear from international shipping.
- A B-grade container is wind and water-tight but may have had previous repairs; perfect for storing commercial and household items. These can often be used for export, still subject to survey and meet CSC shipping requirements.
- Our C-grade container products are sold ‘as-is’ and are ideal for agricultural use and industrial storage. These refurbished containers generally arrive with previous repair patches too.
