SEA Containers backs community groups

Tuesday, September 04, 2018

Earlier this year, we received an email from the Mount Maunganui Lifegaurd Service advising us of their surf club being rebuilt.  After a quick discussion, SEA Containers wanted to jump on board with the rebuild by supplying eight 20FT and 40FT containers.  The demolishment of the surf club started in early April, which meant that there was a need for shipping containers to store the equipment that helps to keep swimmers safe on the beaches in Mount Maunganui.  The shipping containers are now stored all over Mount Maunganui with a couple of the containers located beside the new state-of-the-art rescue centre and the Mount Maunganui camping ground.

Another fantastic community project that SEA Containers have been behind this year is the Bayfair Community Gardens.  The Bayfair Community Gardens supports the Tauranga Community Foodbank by supplying fresh fruit and vegetables.  SEA Containers supplied a shipping container that is being used for storage and as an office space.

Kiwifruit exporter prefers Black

Wednesday, June 27, 2018

NZ Kiwifruit exporter – Zespri – recently took delivery of one of our new all black leasing containers

Zespri are in the process of completing a new $43 million dollar head office, and have a short term storage requirement while they are assessing new office furniture for their new facility

SEA Containers were only too happy to oblige. Our new all black leasing containers are perfect as they have additional ceiling height over a standard container, an easy opening front door, and a lock box fitted as standard for security – they are also a fine looking shipping container, and very easy on the eye as a result!

Pictured in front of “Black Beauty” are, from left, Zespri’s Blair Hamill (Chief Supply Chain Officer) and Mike Knowles (Shipping Manager)

Old boy called back in to help

Wednesday, April 11, 2018

Recently our Sales Manager Stevan has been called back in to supply Rotorua Boys' High School a second-hand shipping container.  Stevan who is an old boy, year of 1999, was ecstatic to hear from his old school and jumped at the opportunity to supply them with a shipping container.  Rotorua Boys' High School required a container for their Hard Materials Technology department where they were lacking the space to store items such as timber.

Stevan supplied a B grade 20FT general purpose container which is the best overall condition container out of the second-hand range.  This is a perfect solution for Rotorua Boys' requirements as a B grade is 100% wind and water tight.

On the 9th of April, Stevan visited Rotorua Boys' High School to see how the delivery of the container went, as well as having an opportunity to take a photo with students from the Hard Material Technology class.

The Perfect Workshop Solution

Wednesday, January 10, 2018

Do you lack the space to work on projects? Is your garage crammed with stored goods? Are you a tradesperson who needs a mobile workshop? Whatever your requirements, an open side container could be the ideal solution for you!

A shipping container is a perfect solution for a static or mobile workshop due to its many functionalities of being durable, versatile and portable. An open side container has two sets of double doors which bi-fold open at the length side and has been purposefully built to open the entire container, which makes your working area a lot more versatile. The major advantage of having a side opening container as your workshop is that oversized equipment can fit in as well as utilising the container to a maximum.

At SEA Containers we also specialise in modifying shipping containers into mobile studios to suit individual needs. You can customise your container workshop, by designing it to neatly store tools and equipment. We can also install insulation and air conditioning as a cost-efficient solution. A shipping container is easily transportable and can be installed with desired modifications such as plumbing, electricity, shelving, racks and so forth.

There are many possibilities when it comes to designing and modifying your container workshop. For more information on designs and customising a portable workshop, do not hesitate to contact our friendly team of experts.

SEA Containers goes to great lengths

Friday, November 10, 2017

SEA Containers goes to great length to help each and every client. The family wanted a good secure container that was clean on the inside, plus a lockbox to store their household goods long term whilst building a new garage.

We gave them the opportunity to visit our yard based at the airport where they had the choice from a selection of containers. They chose the one that suited their requirements, their budget plus blended into their environment in a difficult place to deliver containers.

Firstly our Auckland Regional Manager did a site visit after hours to check whether it would be possible to deliver a container. As it was going to be extremely tough, a second site visit was organised with the trucking company coming to view how the delivery was to be tackled.

All in all … after a lot of effort from the SEA Containers team and swinglift transport company, the client was left very happy with the container in their property.

Aaron said – “Container is in. Really tight but made it in the end. The driver was really good. Never lost his cool or got frustrated at the back and forth to get in.

Thanks for everything."

Have you considered using shipping containers as storage units? Probably, not. There is an upsurge in demand for these containers as more people are discovering that they can be utilised for innovative storage solutions. After all, these huge steel boxes are the safest superstructures, therefore perfect as storage solutions.

Modified shipping containers are used in a variety of ways, namely; to store household goods, hazardous substances, industrial equipment and so forth. New Zealand is no exception. Kiwis are finding new and exciting means of using these steel structures. Here are a few storage ideas:

1.Store Car and use as Short-Term Garaging

Kiwi households have two or more cars and often don’t have adequate garaging to accommodate all their cars. Or garages are filled with boxes and other paraphernalia. Hence, you need extra space for your vehicle. Irrespective of what your requirements are, shipping containers are a cost-effective alternative to storing your car.

Why not alleviate the stress associated with moving, and do so in a time-sensitive, cost-efficient manner by opting for shipping containers as a storage solution. It is portable and can be hauled onto a truck and transported to your new location. You have the option of hiring them or buying them, depending on your requirements. SEA Containers NZ offer an extensive range of sizes a per your needs.

Sheep farming is a significant rural activity in New Zealand, as well as cattle farming in the hills and high country. Shipping container storage units might just be the perfect storage solution. Providing a safe and secure place for your machinery and all your other farming implements and necessities.

Reefers are shipping containers insulated to use as freezers or cold storage. They are most commonly used for transporting perishable goods across the world. These insulated containers are an ideal storage solution for the events, restaurant and catering industries. These containers are transportable, adaptable and provide offsite cold storage for anyone who works with perishable goods.

5.Commercial Storage

Many businesses expand at some time or the other and might run out of space. A standard shipping container might be the answer to your storage problems, whether you need them on a short-term or long-term basis. 6 Ways to Keep Your Shipping Container in Tip-Top Shape

Thursday, November 03, 2016

“A small leak can sink a great ship.” – Benjamin Franklin.

Shipping containers are designed and built to withstand a long, tough life of carrying heavy loads of cargo. These units are commonly constructed of steel, and preventative measures are taken to avoid corrosion. However, as with many things, maintenance and repair are essential and helps to prolong the life of the container. ,

Containers are exposed to corrosive salt air, knocked about when packed and stacked on ships, trains and trucks, causing some damage. It is imperative that you inspect, maintain and repair your containers, twice a year at least.

Here are a few recommendations on how to keep your containers in good nick:

1.Roof maintenance and repair

First and foremost do an inspection of your roof. Recycled containers often suffer damage from being stacked on top one another resulting in dents and chipped paint causing it to retain moisture which causes corrosion and deterioration. Safeguard against corrosion by repairing dents, and using good quality marine paint.

2.Assess, remove and treat rust

It is a misnomer that shipping containers do not succumb to rust and rot. While corten steel is high-quality steel, the wear and tear, does take its toll. Corten steel is resistant to corrosion but not rust proof, therefore require repair and maintenance. It is not such an arduous task. Ensure that you remove the rust, any openings to be sealed, and painted with high-quality marine paint to get more life out of your containers.

3.Inspect, lubricate and repair doors

Shipping containers have heavy duty rubber door seals. However, they do succumb to damage due to wear and tear. Check whether doors are completely sealed. Keep them free from grit and replace them if you notice any cracks. You should regularly inspect the moving parts of the door for any damage due to repeated use. Ensure that they are operational and secure. Keep door hinges, locks and seals clean by removing dirt and rust, then use lubricating spray. Container doors last for approximately 10-15 years before they perish.

4.Secure container on a level surface

Make sure that you install your container on a level, well-drained surface. It prevents water from accumulating and moisture building up, causing corrosion under the container.

5.Examine container modifications

Shipping containers are designed and constructed to resist corrosion and to be water tight. However, it does present challenges when it has been modified in diverse ways and structures, particularly when it is a recycled container. Examine the modified parts of the container, specifically where the steel is joined. See that it is clean and rust free. Repair any rust and clean any debris and treat it with the latest rust proof paint.

6.Maintenance checks on Refrigeration Unit

You will require periodic maintenance if your container is a refrigerated or ‘reefer container.’ Occasional servicing will prohibit unexpected downtime due to repairs necessary at inopportune times. It is best that this type of maintenance is carried out by a qualified technician.

Why you should buy Shipping Containers

Wednesday, September 21, 2016

Whatever the reason you are considering purchasing a shipping container, whether it be for personal or business purposes, it is a cost-effective method to install a secure, mobile unit on a construction site, at your business place, in your yard or for any other purpose for that matter. Let’s explore the reasons why you should buy shipping containers.

  • Depending on your location, purchasing a new shipping container is a breeze, especially with a reputable company like SEA Containers NZ who have branches nationwide.
  • If you don’t want to spend exorbitant costs or your business is on a tight budget, you can buy used shipping containers and can achieve huge savings. While the quality is not the same of a new container, it can be utilised for storage and transport purposes.
  • Be aware that not all shipping containers are constructed of the same material. Opt for those made from corten steel. These will last longer and can endure catastrophic weather conditions. Bear in mind that shipping containers are designed to transport cargo across the oceans while being exposed to the corrosive salt air.
  • Purchase containers that have been graded to ensure that you obtain a unit that is secure, and suited to your requirements, especially if needed for long term use.
  • There are millions of unused shipping containers stacked in ports and shipping yards around the world that are now being put to good use. You can contribute in a small but notable way by buying these recycled containers and creating eco-friendly alternatives for these modified containers.
  • There is an increasing trend to use shipping containers as mobile farming. Many cities are becoming over populated, and access to land is becoming more difficult. Making it more attainable for city dwellers to get wholesome, fresh foods. Weather conditions do not affect the harvesting of fresh produce.
  • If you purchase a container instead of leasing one, it does not mean money down the drain. Companies are always on the lookout for good quality containers for storage and transport purposes. They are durable and robust and designed to withstand a tough life carrying cargo for over 20 years. Hence, if you no longer require the containers, you are assured that they have good trade value over time.
  • Investing in shipping containers gives you peace of mind when constructing a home, or a site office, small studio, etc., especially in areas like Christchurch, Wellington that is prone to earthquakes, or other coastal parts of New Zealand, as container buildings offer immense durability and sustainability. Your Intermodal Steel Building Unit or ISBU unit is sure to impress your insurance provider, due to its excellent safety and fire ranking. Therefore, don’t neglect to inform your insurance provider that it is an ISBU or Intermodal Steel Building Unit.

There are many advantages to purchasing a container due its adaptability and functionality.
